Indigo Mountain is an animal sanctuary nestled in the mountains near Lake George, CO. We are a 501(c)(3) federally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to caring for animals and providing wildlife education.
The organization's mission is two-fold. Our primary goal is to offer a last chance for a life of compassion, love, dignity and respect to animals in need. We save animals that most traditional animal shelters won't take in. Many of the animals that now call Indigo Mountain home have been failed by people. Some were abused or abandoned by previous owners. Some came from failed sanctuaries that were closed down. Others were impounded by the authorities or surrendered by owners who could no longer care for them or simply no longer wanted them. At Indigo Mountain they are given the time they need to rehabilitate physically and emotionally so we can maximize every animal's potential.
The second part of our mission is to create public awareness and inspire respect for animals through education. Indigo Mountain offers a variety of outreach programs throughout Colorado to schools, clubs, neighborhood associations, community organizations and parks. Each of the programs are designed to create awareness of the challenges facing animals.
