About Us
The strength of Indigo Mountain's management team stems from the combined expertise in business management, technical and animal related areas. Our team consists of individuals whose combined backgrounds consist of years of business management, marketing, sales, fundraising, animal studies, education, animal handling and training, enclosure design and construction, and veterinary care and zoology.
Sue Cranston
C0-Founder & Executive Director
Sue has extensive experience handling animals from tiny tree frogs, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, mink, raccoons, fox, coyotes, river otter, bobcat and lynx to big cats, black bears, wolves and wolfdogs. She gained a large amount of experience and knowledge in animal care, behavior and cage construction by volunteering in the sanctuary and rescue field for years before co-founding Indigo Mountain in 1999. Her experience and background in the business world helped to prepare Sue for the many business management and marketing tasks required of her job as Executive Director.
As President of the Board of Directors and the Executive Director, Sue is responsible for the general business management of the center in addition to the day to day care of a number of canines, cats, bears and pocket pets. She also develops many of the wildlife education programs.
Sue holds certifications in Veterinary nutrition, chemical immobilization, animal behavior and animals in disaster. She also holds a diploma from ISCP as a Canine Behavior Practitioner. This training has enhanced her abilities to provide excellent care to the Indigo Mountain animals.
Sue is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, The Pet Professional Guild, The Animal Behavior Management Alliance, Hedgehog Welfare Society, and Sanctuary Workers and Volunteers Association. She is also very active on the Pikes Peak Community College Zoo Keeping Technologies Advisory Board.
Carol Scarborough
Co-Founder & Board Member
Carol Scarborough is one of the co-founders and is the current Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Directors. She volunteered for a sanctuary in Colorado for a number of years prior to co-founding Indigo Mountain in 1999 where she learned a great deal about animal care and fundraising. She has years of experience handling a variety of species from cats, large and small to wolves, wolfdogs, black bears and pocket pets.
Carol brings her broad background in accounting, marketing and general business management to her position with the sanctuary. Her hard work and dedication has helped to make Indigo Mountain the first class facility that it is today.
Sue Masden
Animal Care
Sue's work has contributed to Indigo Mountain's success over the last 18 years. She has volunteered in animal care, construction & maintenance, rescue, and education outreach. In addition Sue helps will all our artistic needs.
Cheryl Streater
Board Member
Cheryl has a BS in Wildlife Biology and a minor in Zoology from Colorado State University. She has worked extensively in the rescue of captive-born wildlife since 1999. She is the Practice Manager and a Veterinary Technician for Alpine Animal Hospital and has spent time with W.O.L.F. and Chimps sanctuaries.
