Where do they come from?
Indigo Mountain provides a permanent home for animals in need, regardless of their backgrounds. Many of the animals have been taken in from Humane Societies, Animal Shelters and Animal Control situations. A lot of our intakes over the last 19 years have come from impound situations, owner relinquishment to shelters, inability to pass the shelter behavioral evaluations and running at large. Surrenders from private owners make up almost half of the animals we have taken in. Many of these animals were the victims of life changes such as divorce, relocation or babies entering the picture. Others had behavioral issues that the owners couldn't rise above or just didn't want to try. Some of the animals have come from sanctuaries that were closing down or private rescuers who got in over their head.
